Assignment
Deutsche Post DHL, the No. 1 international logistics provider with more than 500,000 employees around the world, offers challenging and fascinating careers. Inhouse Consulting cooperates with the company's top management on strategic issues facing the Group. As part of the case study competition, you will dissect a specific problem about the product and service portfolio of Deutsche Post DHL.
You will come up with a solution to the problem in a team of 4 to 5 university students. We will put together the teams based on the suitability of the applicants. You will get to know your team members with the assignment of the problem that you and your team will solve. Your team then will have three weeks to complete the task. You should submit a presentation in English no longer than 10 slides.
We will assess the presentations based on six criteria:
- Structure
- Consistency
- Creativity
- Plausibility
- Layout
- Effective use of sources
Certainly you will receive extensive feedback from our experienced consultants.

Review
The Competition 2008
"What globalization challenges do Deutsche Post DHL's customers face today and which products can Deutsche Post DHL offer as an answer?" In the recent Case Study Competition organized by Deutsche Post DHL Inhouse Consulting, 50 students were given this assignment. The result of the three-week marathon: intensive contact with teammates, with experienced consultants, and many interesting business ideas.
While working to solve the problem, the students were supposed to make sure that their suggestions were creative, viable and, naturally, promising. The team "Warehousing" with Eugene Aw, Florian Ehinger, Mathias Kell and Arryn Dwi Zalsa presented the most convincing ideas for logistics in the pharmaceutical sector.
The four students from Singapore, Germany and Romania proposed a customizable supply chain for clinical trials and a direct-to-customer distribution model for pharmaceuticals.

Close to reality
"The idea of connecting poeple who don't know each other before and who are located in different places is good, since it is how the business world looks like."
The participants had another hurdle to surmount in addition to the demanding assignment. The teams, made up of three to four students each, had never seen each other before and were distributed over a number of different locations in Europe. Thus, the entire process of collaboration had to occur by telephone or E-mail. This flexible and mobile kind of cooperation belongs to the day-to-day business of Inhouse Consulting, but was, in contrast, new to many of the students.
The 50 participants were previously chosen from a multitude of applicants. The case study competition proved itself, without exception, to be an international and interdisciplinary event. As expected, business students above all others were interested in the competition, but also Sinology and Law wanted to test their consulting skills.
