Personal Information
Name: Anne Schaefer
Position: Director Strategic Planning – DGF South Asia
My AIESEC Internship Experience
I joined Deutsche Post DHL as an AIESEC intern in 2006 in the DHL Express Asia Pacific Talent Management team. As part of my job, I was responsible for coordinating the AIESEC program which allowed me to interact not only with all the international trainees but also with the hiring managers from all business units and functions. This gave me a great first insight into the DHL world. The internship itself was a good learning experience, I had a diverse set of tasks, exposure to senior management, the freedom to set-up and run with my own projects and overall a lot of fun.
My Career within the Group
After my internship, I stayed with the company and now work as a strategist in DHL Global Forwarding South Asia based out of Bangkok, Thailand. I continue to enjoy my working experience in DHL everyday for the same reasons I enjoyed my internship experience. It’s the excitement and challenge of working for a large international company that has connections to all industry sectors and has operations globally. I like being in a culturally diverse environment and receiving the support and freedom to bring in my ideas, work independently and develop my career.

Position: Senior Expert – Center of Expertise Learning and Development, HR DHL International
My AIESEC Internship Experience
After working in AIESEC for about 5 years in different local, national and international roles I decided in 2006 that it was time for my internship. DHL was my number one option because of its truly global nature, the very challenging diverse roles offered and the number and quality of alumni retained. In DHL I was able to find the same passion, international mindset and challenge driven spirit that I loved so much in AIESEC. I was given a level of freedom and responsibility that is not common in other internships, I was exposed to top management and I was offered plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.
My Career within the Group
Before the end of my internship I was offered a full time position in the HR Learning and Development team of DHL Express US and by that time my blood was running yellow so the decision to stay with the company was an easy one. Since then I had the opportunity to grow in several different roles in DHL US, DHL Americas Regional Office and now in the Headquarters in Bonn, Germany. After more than 5 years of working for the company my passion remains the same and the challenges and opportunities to grow offered by DHL continue to surprise me. If you like challenges, working in a truly international environment and are not afraid of hard work, I can’t think of a better company than DHL for you.

My AIESEC Internship Experience
While studying for my Bachelor’s degree, I was involved with AIESEC, giving me a chance to work and interact with different nationalities in my home country - India and abroad. Studying International Relations at university and being involved in ‘development’ projects with AIESEC, I recognized my passion for pursuing a path in Sustainable Development. Whilst I was looking for an Internship to explore this path, an alumni recommended me to apply for an AIESEC internship with DHL, 7 years later I still wonder how I landed up in the logistics industry, but the company never stops to surprise me with the immense opportunities.
My Career within the Group
As a global player, Deutsche Post DHL has a lot to offer if you are looking for a truly international and challenging experience . After working in Singapore for 3 years as the Corporate Responsibility Executive, I was seconded to Bonn, Germany. During the last 4 years that I have been in Bonn, I had the chance to be involved in the group’s environmental strategy development for 2 years at DHL Express and then take up my current role that involves communications for the Groups’ Corporate Responsibility programs. If you are looking for a conventional step-by-step career then this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for a dynamic experience full of exciting challenges then I would say Deutsche Post DHL is the right place to be.
