Do you want to gain work experience while pursuing your degree? Then JOIN is your best bet. You start with a two- to six-month internship, establishing the long-term foundation for a successful career at Deutsche Post DHL. You´ll personally take on challenging projects. You´ll be mentored on a long-term basis by successful senior staff members.

In selecting participants for the JOIN Program, we focus on academic performance, practical experience and, of course, personality. We want to obtain the most complete and clear picture of your strengths and your potential as possible, and thus select the right candidates for our program and our divisions.

- Above average grades
- Diploma Studies: basic studies completed
- Bachelor Studies: at least 2nd term

During your internship you´ll be mentored intensively. That means, you´ll get feedback on a regular basis and we will discuss your future perspectives with you. But: JOIN is even more than that. During your first JOIN internship you will get to know your functional area very well by dealing with challenging tasks. Of course your mentor and your project lead support and coach you. The project internship usually takes between 2 to 6 month depending on the project and your availability.
After the internship JOIN continues
Creating a lifelong network is one of the key aspects of JOIN. Being invited to our Networking Event you will get to know more senior staff and other high-potentials. The next party is set for October 2011.

An overview of our functional areas
This area covers the development of products and services, the creation of marketing concepts and all sales activities aimed at customer acquisition as well as customer service. In this work, we focus on nearness to the customer and professionalism.
Projects could be carried out directly for specific customers or delve into cross-divisional improvements (e.g., determination of synergy potential between business departments).
If you are interested in this area, you should think in a customer-focused way and be communicative and creative.
This area covers all strategic and operational activities of our transport and logistics business in the company’s divisions and branches around the world. Key elements of success in this business include a high degree of standardization and continuously high process quality.
Projects focus on such areas as improving the process quality of specific products, analyzing and evaluating current operational performance as well as identifying suitable countermeasures.
If you are interested in this area, you should think in both strategic and networked terms. In addition to your analytical abilities, you must also be a strong achiever.
This area serves as the strategic partner for the divisions and supports them in the areas of personnel processes, personnel development, wage policies, labor law and personnel controlling. As a result, students who have especially focused on Human Resource Management or a reaching for the bar exam are recruited.
Generally, the projects are carried out jointly with the divisions and require a solid understanding of the operational business. Projects address such issues as the code of conduct, change management or the implementation of Corporate programs in various divisions.
If you are interested in this area, you must possess a good manner with people. You must also be a skilful negotiator and a self-confident individual.
This area covers the three following functions: The creation of system concepts for internal and external clients. The development and deployment of defined system concepts as part of project execution. And follow-up support and modification of the system landscape.
Current projects focus on innovative solutions in the area of e-fulfillment (integrated IT solutions ranging from order receipt to delivery) and modification of related standard software as well as individual software to meet DHL customers’ needs.
The Project Management IT area is known for its particularly innovative thinking and its customer-focused approach that is carried out under consideration of the optimal use of resources. If you are interested in this area, you should to be able to think in a process-oriented and analytical way and should have broad technical knowledge.
As competence center Finance, this area lays the foundation for the successful management of the company. Timely, high-quality information ensures transparency and makes a proactive contribution to the company’s success. Thanks to anticipatory thinking and action, chances and risks are identified and addressed in a timely manner.
Projects can be done directly for individual clients or address cross-divisional analyses or improvements (e.g., optimization and standardization of systems or key data).
If you are interested in this area, you should be able to think analytically, be a self-confident individual and enjoy working with numbers.
The Deutsche Post Corporate Development department is responsible for all major strategic initiatives and M&A projects within the group. We focus on group-wide strategic projects that typically involve more than one division and have a high relevance for the group. In M&A projects we verify the strategic fit, execute deal negotiations for major deals and conduct M&A screenings for priority segments/regions.
You will participate in strategy projects, in which you will conduct complex, independent analysis in the following areas:
- Industry and Market analysis
- Competitor analysis
- Assessment of current portfolio
- Support in group-wide strategy projects
In addition you will also be assigned to independent smaller projects, depending on project availability. These projects will be supervised by a Senior Expert, but you will be responsible for driving the project, developing the presentation and presenting to the group.
If you are interested in this area, you must possess outstanding analytical and conceptual abilities proven by exceptional results from your university career. You will be a good teamworker with strong communication abilities. Above-average willingness and ability to work under pressure and flexibility rounds up your profile.
This area bundles different units taking care of innovation. As well as developing new technologies for tomorrow’s world, being innovative also involves combining existing approaches and solutions and exploiting these more effectively in the marketplace.
Current projects focus on e.g. recall solutions for customers from the technology segment or deal with the development and implementation of cold chain solutions in close cooperation with the life-sciences team.
If you are interested in this area you should be able to work in a creative and solution-oriented way. Besides your analytical skills you should also know how to implement solutions.
This area develops integrated communications and PR strategies for key programs and projects across DPDHL by creating high-quality communications concepts. Public Relations work at the corporate level and across the DHL Business Units globally, providing communications expertise and helping the divisions plan and coordinate their communications strategy and programs.
Current projects focus on e.g. helping to build and enhance the credibility, level of trust and image of the Group, through targeted, creative and proactive communications and public relations.
If you are interested in this area you should be a teamplayer with strong communication skills. Furthermore you should be able to prioritize challenging tasks in the right way.
Mentoring and Networking
Two aspects especially highlight the JOIN internship program: intensive mentoring and the creation of a lifelong network. During your internship you will be mentored by successful senior staff members. Further personal advising and networking events offer you the opportunity to build a key network from the very beginning.
Your mentor is your contact for reflecting the internship, your personal experiences and your career development. The mentor is well connected within Deutsche Post DHL and will help you getting around within the company
Besides the mentor the project lead is your second supervisor and direct contact. The project lead will take care of your on-boarding within the internship project and will give you regular feedback concerning your work progress.
A major element of the JOIN program is intensive networking. Your mentor and your project lead are the starting point for building up your own personal network within Deutsche Post DHL. Furthermore networking events offer you the chance to get in touch with our high-potentials.

We select the participants for JOIN program in a multistep, transparent and understandable process. As a result, you always know where you are in the process.

The JOIN selection process begins with the application submitted by a candidate and ends - ideally - with an offer.
But what happens in between? Which selection tools are used? And when will I receive a reply? Our animated selection process offers you a quick overview of the individual steps in the process.
Online Curriculum Vitae
To successfully apply to JOIN, you will fill out our application form. Please have your university transcripts as well as letters of recommendation from any internships and professional positions that you have had ready to be uploaded.
After we receive your application, it will be automatically placed in our applicant database. You will receive an e-mail confirming the arrival of the application.
After your online form is reviewed, we will invite you to an online assessment. To facilitate this assessment, you will receive an e-mail containing a code that will identify you and enable us to make an individual evaluation about your performance. You should expect the test to take about 90 minutes.
Based on the results of the online CV and online AC a second selection will be conducted. We will invite successful applicants to a telephone interview that will be conducted by our recruiting experts. The interview will last about 45 minutes.
After you successfully complete the telephone interview and your documents are screened by the functional areas, we will invite you to an assessment center, where applicants and potential mentors have the chance to get to know one another personally.
By analyzing your strengths and your potential, we would like to correctly assess your qualification for JOIN.
We will make our decisions at the end of assessment center.
Applicants who successfully complete all steps of the selection process will receive an offer at the end of the assessment center.
After signing the contract, we will warmly welcome you as a member of our JOIN internship program.
