The economy in Asia is largely driven by china, even though the mature economies remain strong in terms of fulfilling the world’s needs for the world market, China is now the new star of the world in terms of economic activities and trade volume.
2. What is your growth strategy for Asia as a world region?
Our strategy is very simple: we go where the customer goes. We work where the customer generate the business, we help them facilitate their business around the world. So, when China is growing, when the remaining area of Asia is also developing the activities - we are there to help them. That is why you see a lot of aircrafts flying in the air that has DHL name on because we are helping them moving all the goods around. Whether it is intra-Asia or between Asia and US or between Asia and Europe and for that matter even for the rest of the world. We have a lot of flight in and out of here just to move all the goods that is meeting the market demand.
3. How does DHL develop it’s business in China?
China today is new, is a new star for Asia, we need to expand our coverage in that market. We are today operating directly in 400 cities in China, we have 1600 vehicles running around in China, 6500 employees in China and we have headquarter office in Beijing, where have area office in Guangzhou, in Shanghai, in Dalian, in Qingdao, in Hangzhou, Xiamen - all those key cities that has the business volume and economic activities, we are there!
4. Why is Hong Kong such an important hub for DHL?
The importance of Hong Kong is that it is the center of all the conversions of all the goods and shipments in Asia Pacific. This is a jewel of orient and the center of Asia’s trade and business activities, so we need to be here, because that is where everything comes consolidating in here and disperse all into the world and that is the reason we are here for so many years. We are seeing it growing, we are seeing it now at full capacity, so we now diversify ourselves into another facility in Shanghai to help balance the volume and the capacity limitations.
