New postcode book coming in 2005
Deutsche Post responds to customer wishes for a new edition
Bonn, 11/26/2004, 10:30 AM CETDeutsche Post will be issuing a new edition of the popular postcode book in mid-2005. In order to facilitate the transition in private households, the voluminous reference book was first issued in 1993 when the new five-digit postcode system was introduced. Although many alternatives exist in the form of a regularly updated online search service (that receives more than 1.5 million hits a month), telephone directory service and postcode CD-ROMs, Deutsche Post has continued to receive requests for a printed version containing the postcodes for the entire country. Deutsche Post therefore conducted a representative customer survey in collaboration with IPSOS last summer. The result: More than two thirds of the respondents were interested in a new edition and approximately one third indicated that they would be willing to buy one.
The new postcode book will be launched with a print run of three million copies. It will be available primarily through postal retail outlets. In the event that demand exceeds this first print run, more copies will be printed.
With the issue of a new postcode book, Deutsche Post will give customers the opportunity to acquire the most current version of the postcodes in printed form. This new edition also includes some 60,000 changes that have been made since the postcodes were first issued more than ten years ago. The exact release date and price will be announced at an early date.
