DHL Business Park in Vantaa, Finland fully operational
Vantaa, 08/24/2006, 11:30 AM CESTTransport and logistics production as well as the administrative centre is now fully operational at DHL's new Helsinki area premises - DHL Business Park in Viinikkala, Vantaa. The new logistics centre on the west side of Helsinki-Vantaa airport combines the DHL Express terminals and DHL Exel Supply Chain warehouses as well as the companies' head offices, located in a separate office building next to the production facilities. DHL's subsidiary Kelpokuljetus, a domestic transport company, will move in during September. The area of the entire premises is a good 40,000m 2 and in total there are approximately 700 employees.
"Co-location in the new state-of-the-art premises with excellent transport connections to the port, the road network as well as to the airport enhances our competitive position and enables the sustainable growth of our business. At the same time we want to make the use of our services as simple and easy as possible for the customers", says Timo Jaakkola, Managing Director of DHL Express Finland.
DHL Express operates three daily inbound and outbound international air express flights at Helsinki-Vantaa airport: Cologne, Arlanda-Brussels and Tallinn. A special freight transport road connects the DHL airport ramp to the air terminal.
The road terminal serves as DHL Express Finland's main gateway for transports to and from Europe. In import and domestic traffic DHL Business Park is the base for parcel and pallet deliveries to the metropolitan area and for line hauls to other DHL terminals in Finland. Export shipments are also processed there and - depending on the transport product chosen by the customer - either forwarded to the air terminal or loaded on lorries to start their journey to the destination terminal abroad.
DHL Exel Supply Chain's good 20,000m 2 logistics centre is a multi-customer facility offering warehousing and value-added services. "The location at the airport, under the same roof with DHL Express terminals, is ideal especially for shipments requiring fast deliveries, such as spare parts and electronic components. Sharing DHL resources - premises, employees, equipment and transports - the supply chain costs can be remarkably reduced, whilst enhancing productivity and maintaining high quality of services," says Krister Lång, Managing Director of DHL Exel Supply Chain in Finland.
DHL Global Forwarding, which provides global air and ocean freight forwarding services, is also concentrating its Helsinki area operations to Helsinki-Vantaa airport. The company's new head office with some 170 employees will be located at Tullimiehentie, Vantaa, in early September.
