Leader in the use of integrated IT solutions: DHL employs new SAP module for stock control
Bonn, 03/21/2006, 10:30 AM CETDHL Exel Supply Chain is improving its IT environment: The DHL business division specializing in the development and implementation of logistics solutions is expanding its SAP system at selected storage warehouses with the new "Task and Resource Management" (TRM) module. With this module, all of the warehousing procedures will be able to be managed via a single integrated system in the future. DHL is among the world's pioneers in the use of this new technology and thus offers its customers optimal IT integration, higher efficiency, and more flexibility in all processes.
DHL Exel Supply Chain will first implement the new TRM module at four locations in Germany and replace all of the differing previous material flow systems there. The additional component of the "SAP R/3 Enterprise" system will then take care of the numerous controlling procedures within the warehouse itself. That includes the forklift guidance system or the management of pallet and container conveyance technology. The four selected warehouse sites serve business customers from the fields of telecommunications and electronics. Logistics centers for consumer goods are to follow in 2007.
Dr. Stefan Kurrle, CEO DHL Exel Supply Chain Central Europe, sees a clear competitive advantage in the conversion: "Our customers expect significant added value when we improve logistics processes and increase productivity for them. As one of the first logistics providers, we are now offering them a completely integrated IT system. It guarantees optimal communication between customer and service provider as well as more efficiency form for the entire supply chain."
At the Steinfurt (Westphalia) location, DHL Exel Supply Chain has already fully converted the first of four logistics centers to SAP R/3 Enterprise with the TRM module. The highly automated site has a high rack storage area with 16,000 pallet positions and a small parts warehouse in which up to 175,000 containers can be managed.
