MEDION PC systems with preinstalled Deutsche Post franking software
Bonn, 04/07/2006, 11:30 AM CESTThe Essen-based company MEDION AG will be preinstalling PC systems with Deutsche Post's PC franking software STAMPIT HOME. This makes it possible for users who go onto the Internet with a new MEDION PC to simultaneously frank letters and parcels conveniently and easily. Deutsche Post and MEDION have now signed a cooperative agreement for this. The PC is delivered with an individual credit number that ensures the customer a EUR 3 postage credit after registering for STAMPIT.
With the STAMPIT HOME software solution, users can simply and conveniently frank letters, small packets, and parcels via the Internet using the MEDION PC and a printer. STAMPIT is as simple as you can imagine: The computer user buys the postage amount via the Internet, which is paid by debit from the user's bank account. The amount of postage purchased is stored in an especially secure postage account on the Internet. For each franking, the Internet is briefly accessed and the corresponding amount is debited to the user's postage account.
Letters can also be printed out and franked at the same time in just one step with the use of Microsoft Word or Sun Staroffice Writer. With STAMPIT, all national and international letter mail as well as DHL parcels - national and international up to 20 kilograms - can be franked. Registration to STAMPIT HOME costs a one-time fee of EUR 9.50.
With its HOME, BUSINESS, and WEB versions, STAMPIT is Europe's first online franking solution via PC. The franking is done using a matrix code along with the recipient's address on the envelope, on labels, or directly on an Office document for window envelopes. In addition to letters and small packets, DHL parcels have also been able to be franked since the fall of 2005. With STAMPIT WEB, the "online postage stamps" are also available to Internet customers like eBay users in Germany, for example, without installing any special franking software. All you need is an Internet browser and Adobe Reader.
STAMPIT HOME is the PC version of the STAMPIT family for private users, small businesses, and users with small shipment amounts. In addition to the STAMPIT software, users only need a normal PC with Internet access and an ink jet or laser printer. The online postage account is filled via the Internet and the cost of postage is paid by debit. Since it was introduced to the market in 2001, STAMPIT has been installed by users on more than 100,000 PCs. Further information available at www.stampit.de.
