DHL signs new agreement with automotive parts supplier
DHL chosen as exclusive carrier of global imports for Precise Engineering
Plantation Florida, 12/09/2008, 10:30 AM CETDHL today announced it has signed a two-year agreement with Precise Engineering, a Michigan-based global supplier of custom machined components and tooling for the automotive industry.
DHL was selected as the exclusive provider of international shipping services for Precise Engineering to speed shipments between Asia Pacific and the U.S.
Precise Engineering supplies machined detail inserts for stamping dies, special machines, molds and custom tooling used in the automotive industry. Precise began using DHL two years ago when the company began to source internationally. Since the transition, the Company has experienced 6-fold growth, in part, due to DHL's ability to meet and in many cases exceed the requirements of its customers for expedited delivery.
"To effectively serve our customers, we manufacture and purchase components overseas that need to be imported for our automotive clients with the greatest speed and reliability," said Rick Barnard, Vice President of Operations for Precise Engineering. "Precise Engineering has enjoyed tremendous growth, attributed largely to an effective shipping strategy through DHL that has reduced transit times between the U.S. and Asia from seven days through our previous carrier to under three," continued Barnard.
DHL developed a solution for Precise Engineering utilizing Worldwide Priority Express services, full-service customs clearance, and ground transportation. DHL collects heavyweight shipments from suppliers based in China and Korea, with DHL's electronic pre-alert system enabling shipments to clear customs before the plane lands in the U.S. Once in the U.S., the shipments are inducted into DHL's express delivery network where DHL performs the final delivery to Precise Engineering's U.S. plant.
"Our strong international network and cross-border expertise have enabled DHL to provide valuable solutions to companies that are vital to the U.S. manufacturing sector like Precise Engineering," said Al Burba, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Mid-Atlantic, Midwest Region at DHL Express. "American businesses have been using expedited shipping across borders to grow their businesses successfully and in many cases as a means for a competitive advantage."
