DHL opened its new terminal in Zvolen in Slovakia
Bratislava, 01/31/2008, 10:30 AM CET
The express delivery and logistics services provider DHL Express (Slovakia), spol. s r.o., has opened its new terminal in the past days. One of its divisions - DHL Express - will use the new terminal for accepting, processing and dispatch of express delivery goods and documents, while the division DHL Freight will use it for truck transport, collection and storage services.
The terminal is equipped with a more-layer skidway and balancing bridges for vehicles up to and above 3,5 tons, which will enable fast and simple loading or as the case may be unloading of goods and consignments to and from vehicles of different sizes.
Dynamic growth
Until now, delivery services for Zvolen were provided through the branch in Banská Bystrica. "The main reason to move the terminal from Banská Bystrica to Zvolen was the optimisation of the transport network, which arose out of the continuous growth of shipment performance," said DHL Express Slovakia's Managing Director Laurenc Svitok. "Dynamic growth of the consignment number, with which partly the character, dimensions and weight of the goods shipped changed, required the move to new, bigger premises."
The correctness of the decision was confirmed by the analysis of transport costs. Thanks to the new terminal, the company's weekly delivery transport should be cut by 2,100 km and in terms of time it should be less by 16 hours per week. Moreover, the advantage of Zvolen premises is the suitable location and the possibility of using the option for their further extension. This will enable the DHL to cover the consignment volume also in the following years.
