DHL strengthens Romanian business with Cargus acquisition
Bucharest Romania, 04/17/2008, 11:30 AM CEST
DHL, the world's leading express and logistic company, today announced the acquisition of Cargus, the top domestic express courier in Romania, as part of its strategy to strengthen DHL's overall leading position in the Romanian courier market.
"Cargus has an excellent track record in the Romanian market which is based on business culture similar to DHL's can-do attitude. We are convinced that the combined resources and experiences of both companies will ensure a successful future for DHL and Cargus. We expect DHL and Cargus to become the number one in the Romanian domestic courier market in terms of market size and quality of service", said Gian Sharp. Managing Director of DHL Romania.
Investments in operational infrastructure
DHL and Cargus will continue to act as separate entities and will keep their employees, brand and the type of services offered. Gian Sharp will lead the new joint management team while Augustin Plesea, president of Cargus, will keep his position in the Cargus management board.
Both companies will further enhance their services through significant investments in operational infrastructure and process improvement activities. While strengthening their leading position in each of their respective market segments, a single client interface will be developed to support a one-stop-shopping approach for the customers. "We want to offer our clients a convenient and integrated access to domestic and international shipment services from a single source", added Augustin Plesea.
The completion of the acquisition is subject to obtaining the approval of the Competition Council and the completion of a fiscal audit.
