Deutsche Post to inform millions of households about Christmas mail
- Company always providing universal service, not just at Christmas
- Universal mail service guaranteed for the future
Christmas is the busiest time for letters and parcels. In order to make customers aware of the range of options available to them when sending their Christmas mail, Deutsche Post will be sending a mailshot to 34 million households next week to inform them about the latest Christmas mail services and tips.
The company is the only service provider in Germany offering a full universal service. Even though since the start of 2008, when the mail market was fully liberalized and the remaining monopoly was dismantled, Deutsche Post has no longer been under any legal obligation, more than 200,000 employees in Germany have continued to ensure that the mail delivery process runs smoothly.
This includes delivering letters and parcels six days a week, a level of quality in mail and parcel transit times confirmed by the German Technical Inspectorate (TÜV) as going far beyond statutory requirements, and a comprehensive network of retail outlets with significantly more outlets than the numbers required in law.
The promise of "more service" made by Jürgen Gerdes, Board Member responsible for the Mail division, has been consistently implemented by Deutsche Post and its range of services and access options for both private and business customers greatly expanded. In addition to some 14,000 retail outlets Deutsche Post customers can today use 1,500 Packstations and 1,000 Paketboxes in Germany to deliver and collect packages and parcels. A further 2,000 special sales points for normal stamps and prepaid parcel stamps are also available.
A nationwide network of more than 108,000 mail boxes has been available consistently for a number of years. The universal service provider is also keeping track of ever-changing customer requirements for new and modern services: Internet stamps, cell phone postage, a new internet portal for mail services or individual franking solutions are just some of the innovations launched in recent months.
On the strength of its proven quality and reliability and with the introduction of new services, mail will continue to be delivered to the usual high standards six days a week across Germany and in some 14,000 retail outlets a universal mail service will be guaranteed for everyone, everywhere.
