Our partners
To provide disaster relief, we cooperate up with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). We have a close and trusting relationship with both partners.
Chris Weeks (DHL Director Disaster Response) and Winston Chang (OCHA)
OCHA is our partner for the work provided by the DHL Disaster Response Teams. This organization is responsible for mobilizing and coordinating humanitarian aid together with national and international partners. The UN Office calls on the Disaster Response Team when disasters strike. A "Memorandum of Understanding", which is signed upon deployment, regulates the cooperation with local government offices.
As part of GARD, we cooperate with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The UN network plays an active role in improving living conditions and sustainable development. UNDP brings together national and international efforts to reach the UN Millennium Goals.
We signed "Memoranda of Understanding" with China in 2006, the Philippines in 2007, with Sri Lanka in 2008 and at last with Costa Rica, Panama, Peru and Guatemala in 2009. They help minimize the administration needed to start a deployment, so we can start helping on the ground faster. They set out the types of services, such as warehousing, that a DRT could offer a government dealing with a natural disaster.
