Partners for a better planet: UNICEF and Deutsche Post DHL
The goal of our long-standing partnership with the United Children's Fund is to reduce child mortality by providing medical services and health education.
"We deliver help" is the motto of our long-term partnership that was launched in September 2006. In our three focal countries Peru, Kenya and India, our company not only provides financial and material support, but our employees also volunteer in numerous fundraising activities.
Our partnership with UNICEF is an important part of our GoHelp initiative, which we have been implementing in a variety of projects all over the world. Below you find some examples of how our partnership with UNICEF provides help to people in need.
Saving children's lives
Every year, over nine million children die before their fifth birthday from preventable or easily treated diseases-most of them in third-world countries. Deutsche Post DHL and UNICEF have been partnering since 2006 to save children's lives. We support aid programs in Peru, Kenya and India.
Our partnership revolves around the "Young Child Survival and Development" program which includes healthcare, early child development, diet and hygiene initiatives. By the end of 2009, Deutsche Post DHL collected sufficient donations to fund vaccinations of 50,000 children against deadly and preventable diseases, such as tetanus, diphtheria and polio.

In the Kwale region, Deutsche Post DHL provides financial support to UNICEF to help educate families on health risks and prevention. People learn about the serious risks of bites from malaria mosquitoes, and how a mosquito net hung over their child's bed can help save their lives. Employee donations are used to help train medical workers and to provide medical devices in hospitals. In addition, DHL Kenya helped UNICEF distribute mosquito nets and medications in the region.

In 2007, Deutsche Post DHL expanded its partnership with UNICEF. In the Peruvian Andes, our donations help UNICEF equip 40 health centers with medical devices and medicine. In remote mountain villages the primary goal is to educate people about health risks, to protect children against infections and to provide medical care to pregnant women. About 2,100 mothers-to-be and 6,600 children under three have been receiving help.

In Nandurbar, one of the poorest regions in India, child mortality is high. This is due to the fact that many children are malnourished and not completely immunized. With the help of Deutsche Post DHL, UNICEF works to improve the health care system developing and implementing village health and nutrition plans. Additionally, UNICEF set up information posts educating people on preventing and treating malnourishment and communicable diseases, training workers and midwives, and much more.
Together we can make a difference
A central aspect of Deutsche Post DHL's efforts is the involvement of our employees. Over the last few years, thousands of them have supported regional humanitarian projects, by making donations or providing hands-on help. Through the partnership with UNICEF alone, more than 600 employees worldwide decided to become engaged as official Ambassadors for our UNICEF program. For example, they succesfully initiated local fundraising events for the benefit of our aid projects.
